Self-Paced Course Description

Step back in time to explore the fascinating city of Timbuktu during the medieval period! This self-paced course will take elementary and middle school students on a journey to discover one of the most important cities of its time, known for its knowledge, trade, and vibrant life. Students will learn about the people who lived there, the great libraries, and the incredible trade routes that connected Timbuktu to distant lands.

Through fun lessons, students will:

  • Discover the daily life of the people who lived in medieval Timbuktu.
  • Explore the importance of education and the scholars who gathered in the city.
  • Learn about the rich trade network that brought valuable goods to and from Timbuktu.
  • Investigate the city’s grand buildings and how they were used for learning and trading.

This course encourages students to think about how different parts of the world were connected long ago and how Timbuktu played a special role in shaping the world we know today. Join us to uncover the wonders of this ancient city!
